Why? and it ain't no joke!

Oh man, I saw Why? live last night out at the abbey pub in Chicago and they were awesome:
I wish I had been a little closer to get better pictures. After the show I put up a few posters with the odwwart stencils but I don't really think it'll get that many people to visit but hey, it was fun.
Haven't got much more to post other than an art project I've been working on with oil pastels which I absolutely hate. It feels like I am drawing with crayons again. Regardless it's always good to work in different mediums to get a good feel for what works best with you. This was done on a 22" by 30" piece of fancy ass strathmore paper.

and then I want to add a little something of my own.. I happen to LOVE music videos and hope to direct one of my own one for someone some day in the future. so yea.. lemme make my own contribution.

This is the Asian Kung-Fu Generation's new song, "Atarashii Sekai" which is just an awesome snappy music video. It uses quick imagery and animation to accompany the music in a simple way some would consider cheap but I just can't stop watching. It's pure eye candy for me.

Been fooling around with stencils more. It's always been something I've wanted to do and now I am getting addicted. It feels more good than it should when you're holding a can full of pink spray paint.

School work and links

So lately I've been working with stencils and Styrofoam cutouts for a school project of sorts. I felt it turned out pretty good. The words together spell, "New Reissue":
I've also been thinking about linking to some things that inspire or have something to do with current subcultures, internet things, and art in general. Me, Josh and Paul were talking even just linking cool music videos we've found recently LIKE THESE:

Why?, A favorite group of mine recently had a new album and I really dig the music video for their song, "Song of the sad assassin." Before I do a lot of art or start work on projects I find myself going through musics videos or listening to music in general to get me going and I really liked the feel and use of imagery for this one, especially the skelexylphone.

Josh showed me this group called Real Tuesday Weld when I was visiting him last time in Chicago and they have a whole ton of cool, rag time inspired animated music videos with a really good classic cabaret sound remixed with current electronic sound. This was my favorite of the bunch. It'd be good to check them all out because they're all pretty great.

Now if only I had more people looking at this site so these links would be seen by more than 3 people probably :/ That's the next thing we gotta do, get people to look at this place...

Getting super pumped!

Me and Paul talked tonight which then slithered down to Tara and I am getting super ramped about getting this blog up and going again. Paul should be posting a theme tomorrow and I should be uploading some art and projects I've been doing lately.

The last image was inspired by why?'s song "Good Friday" off their new album Alopecia which is a pretty damn good album. That coupled with Vampire weekend and the Dodo's recent albums have been really getting me pumped to do more art and more with this group.
