Insects are really cool and there's a lot you can do with them, you can even eat a good majority of them! So I dunno, we can take this slow to get back into the hang of this but I'll say we should probably all try to submit something insect themed in the next 2 weeks. GO GO GO!

Well semi-serious real post on some plane of existence but basically I wanted to talk about why we started this blog: forcing ourselves to do more art until we all achieve a collective nervous break down, become recluses and hate everyone that's ever existed or potentially will exist.

Well, sorta, maybe. Ok maybe not that intense of a gesture but we did originally start this blog to do more art, if not exclusively, for this blog. And I'm not calling for anything major here or going to get on anyone's ass but I think it's time we brought back the themes to do each week and post some art to go with it.

If that's a bit too much, we could extend it a little longer. I'd just like to hear what you guys are thinking. On top of that each theme should be seen as a fun challenge and taking different approaches would be just as interesting. I have an idea for the next one and I'm thinking of using paper cut outs to make it. We'll see.

As for other things, I've been highly enjoying my print making class. Here's some silk screen work I've been doing on a series of dinosaur hybrid birds:

Also I got new shoes, a hair cut, clipped my nails, shaved, changed my car's oil and ate a huge burrito all in one day. I think from now on I'm going to try to ball up all of my weekly/monthly/quarterly self maintenance into one day because I felt god damn dapper.

So I am currently in Arizona on vacation without a scanner or my own computer for that matter. I can't currently upload any art or comics I've been working on for a week but this gives me time to post something just as important to me as art; which would be music.
Basically, in no order or structure, here is 6 of my favorite albums of 2008. It was a good year for music and it's always nice to see what people where listening to. I could have gone to 10 or more even but I like to keep this list simple, short and sweet.

French kicks - Swimming

They have this amazing distant sound with intense reverb and heavy bass tones on this album. It has this haunting sound that doesn't leave and causes it to become involving in a way. Somewhat similar to the Walkmen but still unique on their own, this album was pretty amazing to me.

Why? - Alopecia

Yoni Wolf, lead singer and do'er most'er guy of Why? has always been a really interesting musician and put together a really fun trip hop album here. The album is mainly about personal problems and worries reflected in fun, psychedelic tracks that have an upbeat sound with grim lyrics. It's got a certain weird charm that's hard to deny.

Evangelicals - The Evening Descends

This entire album is a really cool concept itself. Basically it's like if you took a bunch of old 70's horror films and vignettes, mixed them with a bit of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and then had a band that sounds like Pavement on acid make music to it all. It's a fun, interesting trip altogether.

Shugo Tokumaru - Exit

Shugo Tokumaru has always been a really interesting musician and he really shines on this album. He plays all the instruments on this (which is around 40) and manages to make them all sound chaotic, delightful and cheerful. All the songs have an interesting dream like quality to them that kind of sticks with you after listening.

Miniature Tigers - Tell it to the Volcano

This is their first album, after releasing to EP's this year that were both excellent. The whole thing has a lot of straight forward songs with real catchy beats. As simple as the songs and sound are done, it's so well executed that it almost becomes complex. They remind me of early Weezer in a lot of great ways.

Thao - We Brave Bee Stings and All

The lead singer has a beautiful, unique voice and the guitar work throughout the whole album is quite amazing. A lot of the songs also seem to be on love and fractured relationships with inspiring lyrics and great mental imagery. She communicates that love is most definitely for the brave and you should always expect a few black eyes here and there when dealing with it.

I was considering adding Tv on the Radio's new album, "Dear Science," or even Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" but I wanted to go with ones that were just as great and flew under a lot of people's radar. Check this out if you get the chance, I promise they're all great and made with pure dedication (and possible magical musical unicorn witchcraft).

As for everyone else on odwwart, I hope you guys put together a list of some of your favorites and post it. It'd be nice and fun and help liven up this blog a bit since it's been kind of slow since the start of December. You could even do movies, books, pornography or favorite show dogs if you want!

Oh man, I am sorry I've been so lackluster for posting this month. I just finished up finals so now I got some more time on my hands and want to start posting art to just this blog, not just deviant art and here.

Kind of sad though, I like having the free time but I really did enjoy my classes this semester, especially Illustration. It was one of the first few art classes I've had where everyone was friendly, some what talented and gave good critiques. That shit is hard to find sometimes. Anyways my last project was a portrait of Kilgore Trout, best fictional author to ever exist (kind of :3).

Also, last week for my birthday, me and our very own Mauvis got together and got to see They Might be Giants live at the Metro in Chicago. These mother fuckers came back for two encores, TWO ENCORES! Who does that?

I also finished some more large chipboard illustrations. I used the songs "Astronaut" by Beach House and "Agoraphobia" by Deerhunter in that order.

and to keep tradition with these ungodly long post, I'll finish it off with a music video I've been obsessing over lately.

Ferraby Lionheart's "small planet". It's a beautiful song off a phenomenal album from last year titled "Catch the Brass Ring". Good thing he has such a wonderful voice because god damn, he's weird looking :3

Hopefully everyone on the blog had a good wrap up for the semester but I just realized me, KC and Cooky Puss are the only ones in college right now. So uh, good luck Cooky puss and KC, if you're not done yet.

Been working with watercolors more and more. I picked up a watercolor block, 9" by 12", so I've been trying to make sure I am a little more comfortable before I start painting over the sketch.
One of these days I am going to do a comic just about this character, Scott, because he's still my favorite thing to draw even though I've been doing all those Anti-Nova comics with Marshmallow Gremlin. I've got too many ideas and characters I need to put into action; I really should just kick myself in the ass constantly.

Anyways, as for other art and music happenings, Matt & Kim just recently came through town with Kid Static and Best Fwends. They played at the house out in Dekalb and it was a pretty damn amazing show all around. I saw Matt & Kim earlier this year (even had an entry earlier too on this blog about it) but they once again put on a great set with an ungodly amount of energy.
For their encore they decided to play one extra song that segwayed into a dance mix Kim put together as both Matt and Kim proceeded to jump off the stage and make everyone dance their pants off.

Pants were most certainly danced off.

Kid Static opened before them, he has an interesting sound that reminds me of Dan the Automator (before he started sucking on that second handsome boys modeling school album :( ) mixed with Q-tip. Really fun live, twice as fun when the dance party started.

After Kid Static, Best Fwends played. They're hard to describe other than, "so awesome and hilarious live you pee your pants a little bit." It's really hard to explain then other than to observe them.

So check this out as well.

So after that was all good and finished, it had been one of the better concerts I have been to this year. Even more suprising it was out in Dekalb instead of Chicago.

Also, for music, Deerhunter's new album is fantastic like everyone has been saying. I've been especially obsessed over the one song "agoraphobia" lately:

It is a very depressing tune but something just really hits home about it. The music video is also really pretty and weird, just like the song. Bradford Cox just seems to have an immense talent for writing the perfect sad song; the entire album of Atlas Sound is perfect proof of that.

Places to go in Chicago if you're a huge nerd/artist

I was talking to Paul a few weeks back saying we should start posting fun places to go for artist/nerd things in the areas we live since most of us are from different parts of the states (and for some of us, Ireland even).

So this last Friday on a trip out to Chicago to see some friends and a concert, I figured I should snap some pictures and talk about some good places in Chicago to stop by! As always, the upliftingly cheerful skyline of Chicago. So organic and full of life!

I have 3 close friends that go to Colombia College and DePaul university. These two campuses are actually right next to each other on Michigan ave. so I usually stop by here to pick them up or hang out. Our first stop after that is usually a great Sushi to go stop called Osaka. Always great food and some of the best bubble tea in the area.

Another nice thing is right across the street is Utrecht's, an art supply store that has almost any art material imaginable available. I usually stop by here to pick up some copics or Montana gold spray paint for a decent price.

and to complete a triangle of complete awesomeness, right at the end of the intersection is the Art Institute of Chicago, by far one of the best Art museums in the country. Always one of the best places in Chicago to visit on a regular basis. The only other place that beats its pants off in my books would be the Guggenheimer for Art Museums in America.

Down a few more blocks on Michigan is Graham Cracker comics. And since there is no doubt that I am a huge fucking nerd, we had to stop by and get the new issue of Rasl that just came out and god damn is it good. It'd be nice if Jeff Smith wasn't taking 3 months inbetween each chapter though :[

After making our runs of these few places we had to stop by Depaul again for my friend Steve to pick up some of his stuff. Lately they've been renovating the entire insides of the University and it looks like some kind of awesome Hobo palace.

Seriously, half of the walls are covered with garbage bags.

Before I headed off to the concert we drove over to Roscoe village to meet up with one more friend at the 4 moons tavern. On top of it being a great hang out they make some really fucking tasty burgers and all the bartenders are super nice. Also they have a very unique jukebox that went from playing Andrew Bird to Frank Zappa while I was there.

Finally my last stop for the night was the Rivera, one of Chicago's better bigger venues. That night Ted Leo and the Pharmacist were playing alongside with Against me! It was a pretty fantastic show.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacist have always been a favorite of mine and he gave quite the energetic performance even though he was sick and his voice was going towards the last song. Last year at Pitchfork music fest he got a concussion on his head that was bleeding profusely but the guy still finished his entire set. Not too many things can keep Ted Leo down.

As for Against me! they were really, really fun live. Extremely loud and the lead singer does not stop smiling. Seriously, the entire show he looked like he was having the best time out of anyone else there. Though I'd be pretty happy if I owned a black Rickenbacker myself.

After that it was time to head home, feeling quite content in my day of activities as well as slightly buzzed with ringing ears.

Hopefully that wasn't too long and boring. If not, I do plan on doing a few more of these since there's always a million cool art places, music venues and general cool as shit hang outs to stop by and see when in Chicago.

Another show opened up last night at Bad Dog Gallery featuring student work from NIU, the theme was monsters:

This last one was done by a good friend of mine named Pete, a painting major who does some really cool and surrealistic paintings of creatures and monsters so he fit in the show quite nicely. Definitely did one of my favorite pieces:
I have to say, I've been pretty impressed with Bad Dog Gallery so far and hope that Dekalb can keep the steam going for it. It's been just as good as the Galleries out in Chicago, though nothing will ever top Rotofugi in my books.

So I've been a bit busy lately and haven't been updating here as much as I'd like but hopefully now I can get back on track on that. I recently just got another job (in addition to the one I already have part time) at NIU's Art Museum Gallery so I've been juggling that as well as full time schoolin' hardcore. It's a lot but whatevs, nothing I can't handle. I'll post some of my own art work when I get home from classes later tonight.

Anyways, A new art gallery named Bad Dog Gallery opened in DeKalb this last week and it was a pretty interesting mixture of local artist, teachers and students. Here were some pieces they had:

I don't have the name list for the pieces this time sadly since I've seemed to have misplaced it. None the less they had a lot of interesting pieces and work and it's nice to see some art happenings going on out in DeKalb, IL. Which happens to be where fun goes to die.

I've been in love with Crystal Castles lately and all of their music videos are pretty straight forward, nice and simple. They have a handful of others so check them out sometime if you like what you see.

Gallery opening night on Peoria

Since the school year started, one of my teacher's at NIU has been telling me to attend the opening night for a bunch of galleries on Peoria street out in Chicago. I was going to blow it off but two of my friends insisted I meet up with them so I was guilt tripped into it.

Turns out they give you free beer and food so it went from alright to amazing in a few seconds. Thought I'd update with some of the highlights of the few galleries I visited. As with most art shows and galleries I've been to, 90% of the art was pretentious bullshit with 10% of it being awesome pieces and exhibits. Seriously, one of the art exhibitions there was a video of a guy running around decripted parts of Chicago at night with a spiderman costume. More artist need to be punched in the face more often or something.

Anyways, here's some of the galleries I liked:

Walsh Gallery/ www.walshgallery.com

Featuring the work of Reena Saini Kallat. A lot of her pieces were very large in scale and actually look like she put some time and thought into the it. Most of them were centered around past conflicts between India and pakistan so the message was interesting as well. One of her more aweinspiring works was a series of portraits painted on collected stamps titled "Synonyms".
That's my friend Ryan next to one of the synonym's portait texting away, he spent most of the time in the galleries texting.
Don't give me the sad face Ryan, I don't care about your texting.

Peek art/ www.peekart.com

Ok, so this was probably my favorite gallery of the bunch. They had a lot of interesting artist and had a whole interactive website you could play around with in the gallery. They even had this nice little couch you could sit down on to watch a movie.

Their website is currently down and I can't figure out the artist who did these two pieces I really liked :[
When I figure out the name/website quits being gay as hell I'll see about updating this. None the less enjoy the pretty pictures. I'm a whore for that whole Japanese pop art look right now :3

This gallery features a lot of former students and teachers from Northern Illinois Univeristy. Sadly other than Stan Shellabarger's peices most of the art was piss poor art scene bullshit :/ I also couldn't get any good pictures of Stan's works because it was so crowded so I just used the stock picture off the website.

Last year they featured Ben Stone, one of my favorite art teacher's at NIU, and his stuff is always borderline insane but well excuted. Hopefully he'll be in rotation for the gallery again, here's some of his stuff from last time.

That Calvin one makes me smile everytime I think about it.

Finally, Peter Miller Gallery/ www.petermillergallery.com

This gallery was featuring mainly just works of Laura Ball. She did these huge oil paintings mixed with stencils and other mediums that looked spectucular. They all focused on women and roles they play in society mixed with idealisms from fairy tale worlds riding pretty horses or something along those lines. There were a lot of fancy words I forgot but the paintings and drawings sure are purty :3

Also another artist featured was Caleb Weintraub. All of his peices were huge and full of bright colors with children wearing paper plates for mask. For size comparison my friend Steve decided to give a hand.

I think Steve had taken full advantage of the free drinks by this point.

All in all it was a pretty swell time and if you live in the Chicago area you should make it out for the open gallery nights. It's always an interesting experince. Next time I should drag along Josh (Mauvis) so we can do some hardcore hating on the usual 90% while enjoying the free goods :3

So I've been working on the comic diligently and I feel I've made enough progress with it to post the first five pages since Paul suggested it earlier when I started on it. So throughout the week I'll post them and it'll be a fun little shin dig all around.
I'm just glad I actually want to go further then 10 pages with this idea (and hopefully I will). I've also been trying to do this mostly with traditional media, keeping any digital work or editing to a minimum.

To kick off all these comic pages, Man Man just released their music video for the song "Mister Jung Stuffed" off their newest album, Rabbit Habits, and I'm really digging it. By far my favorite album to come out this year and also one of my favorite songs from it so I might as well POST THAT SHIT NIGGA'

Pitchfork 2008 part 2: The artening

So basically after day 1 and coming home to collapse for 11 hours I awoke to head out for day 2! Since I ended up sleeping so long I got there a little later then I wanted to and missed seeing HEALTH but at least got there in time for King Khan and the Shrines.

This guy is practically a living super hero and if you ever get the chance to see him live, you need to get in on that shit!

After these events I ended up spending some time in the poster and illustration show with my art buddy Greg and got a chance to meet some awesome illustrators. A lot of the art had kind of a similar and generic look but I found a few that really stood out. So here's a list of them with websites and pics both handy and practical for your internet experience.

Methane Studios

http://methanestudios.com These guys were really cool and had a nice set up, chatted with me for a bit and even gave me a free set of buttons. So they go first because I am a whore who loves free things.

Further down the show was http://gigposters.com which really didn't have any general artist leading the booth but instead were selling these cool collections of posters and playing cards that had almost every gig poster illustrator doing a card design.

Next to these guys was http://mile44.com who had a pretty cool collection of gig posters and illustrations that had a kind of R. Crumb meets 70's style cartoony school poster feel to them for drawing and designs.

Ground-Up Studios/Dan Grzeca
http://dangrzecaart.blogspot.com/ had a really nice use of vivid line work and crazy construction that gave the posters a real nice appeal. Chaotic and fun!

Oddly enough one of my favorites at the gathering, Kollective Fusion (http://kollectivefusion.com/newsite/comingsoon.html), site is still not up so I don't have much of any art to post for them. If that site gets up soon check it out, they had a really colorful urban art style that was fucking awesome.

Plastic Flame Press
http://www.plasticflame.com/ had probably my favorite works. A lot them had an almost cute, childlike look and feel but it was executed so well it became charming. As soon as I get done being broke as fuck I'm going to have to order me one of their decemberists posters.

Valhalla Studios
http://www.vahallastudios.com/ Just scream "VAHALLA!" like a viking and you're set.

Hero design and sound
http://heroandsound.com/ was pretty cool because they also did a lot of designer toys as well as posters. Both done pretty well and with fun vivid colors.

After that I was done and decided it was time to be as white as hell, throw up some W's and go see Ghostface Killah ft. Raekwon live. He was awesome and even rapped a few songs from classic Wu-tang and ODB albums.

I was also welcomed to one of the most intense clouds of Dank Nugz I've ever seen at a festival but I would not expect any less from my Wu-tang.

By this point pitchfork had gotten so crowded I wasn't able to get close for the last two acts I saw of the night which was spirtualized and Dinosaur Jr.. Spiritualized was probably the better of the two but Dinosaur Jr. still proved to have a pretty good set and sound. Needless to say I was ready to go home and I had pretty damn good time this year.

In closing, pitchfork was catshirtwithlasereyesonaskinnyhipstertastic. Oh hipster man, why must you look so sad when you have such a fun shirt?

Pitchfork 2008 part 1: THE MUSICING

So I've been away for a bit but I have returned from vacation and most of all, pitchfork music festival 2008! So here's a big ass, two part post about pitchfork.

First off, me and Paul made some new sticker designs. Since pitchfork took place in a park with not too many walls or places to post them I handed them out to a few people and a bunch of artist at pitchfork's flatstock 17, a poster illustration show they hosted this year. I ran into some amazing and fun illustrators but I'll cover that in part 2.

For the music fest itself, I went saturday and Sunday. I've been to pitchfork music fest for the last 2 years and it's usually a very nice collection of independent musicians and bands from many different types of genres and scenes. For part 1 I'm just going to cover Saturday.

First group I saw was Fleet Foxes, they kind of trot the line of folk and rock and sound like a blend of Fleet wood Mac with My morning jacket. The nice thing was they sounded exactly like they do on their albums, vocal harmonies and all.

Next after them I went with two of my friends to see Ruby Suns, a fun little new Zealand band, much like flight of the choncords. Of course they concentrated more on psychedelliac pop than humor but it was all good.

We then headed on over to see !!! which danced until they could dance no more. They were probably the loudest band of the weekend but at the same time they definitely used it well. They got everyone moving and/or possibly grooving.

The last two musicians/bands I saw might have been my favorite at pitchfork this year. After !!! I saw Atlas Sound, a side project of Bradford Cox whose the lead singer of Deerhunter. I've always been a big fan of his but it was even more amazing to see him live. It was just him on the stage with a guitar and sound set up and he reproduced all the sound perfectly. Hearing "Quarantined" live was hauntingly moving.

After that I saw the last group on Saturday which was Animal collect which was fucking amazing. On top of doing a lot of their own songs, Panda Bear did "Comfy in Nautica" off his own album from last year. For the final song of the evening they did a 15 minute version of "Fireworks" which was mindblowingly great.

Not quite full to the brim with music that night, me and a coworker from my job meet up at Schubas for an aftershow headlined by High Places. On top of Schubas being one of my favorite venues in Chicago, High places gave a really great show even though I was already feeling dead on my feet after a long day.

They write songs about banana slugs, how could you not love them?

Also having a few stickers left I made sure to mark their exit doors accordingly:

The adventures of colt 45 in sticker land

Ok, so for the last few days I've been working on some stickers for a concert out in Chicago. Basically Colt 45 was hosting a concert series at the hideout, a really awesome venue, and alls you had to do was rsvp on their website and you got in for free (as well as recieved free colt 45). Free malt liqour was a pretty sweet deal but the real cherry on top was the fact that Matt & Kim were headlining.

Anyways, I just got back and it was god damn awesome. I am pretty much soaked in colt 45 right now (though luckily I didn't get too carried away with drinking the stuff myself) and passed out a lot of stickers as well as plastered the walls with them.
I actually didn't get to post the "you're a cunt!" one on the walls because when I got them out a bunch of people asked for them so I just handed them all out. I eventually became known as "that guy with stickers that says cunt on them" guy, which I found to be entertaining.

As you can guess, all of that colt 45 lead to a lot of antics, including one guy who looked like Seth Rogen who built a fortress out of dead malt beverage cans.
As for the line up we had Hollywood Holt, who rocked and got white kids to dance and throw up gang signs
Then we had Deadset, they were all right. Even their pictures turned out apathetic
And then finally Matt & Kim, who were GOD DAMN AMAZING! They got the whole audience on stage the best they could and even when they had a keyboard malfunction they just went to drums to keep it going because they were unstoppable juggernauts of rock.

After the show I handed Matt a set of stickers and got a big manly hand shake from him and went home quite content, tired and smelling like Grampa. If you're ever out by the Hideout, keep an eye out for odwwart.

Heroes Con Part 2: Cute Girl Demo Graphics, The Brother's Chaps, Brand Studio Press

aight kids. I'm marinading some meats so I guess while I let that happen I'll continue my trip to heroes con. When Last I blogged I talked about Sanford Greene, Bryan Lee O'Malley and Jim Mahfood and his amazing pen.

after lunch on Friday some images at the Cute Girl Demographics Table caught my eye, and as I gawked the artists were actually not present but letting the table next to them watch their stuff. They returned and I mostly talked with the very nice Josh Latta who is working on an ongoing dirty funny animal book called Rashy Rabbit, formally known as anxiety, sleep problems and depression, it's basically a story about an akward guy who wants to fuck girls but told with bunnies and also kind of a semi auto biography, I liked the way it looked so I bought it and also his companion, Brad McGinty, had a cool little book called Bird Doggin which was basically a mini collection of pin up style pics.. which I was pretty down with. catch Josh Latta and Brad McGinty at Cute Girl DemoGraphics if you wanna catch more of their stuff.

Directly behind me from the cgdg table was a booth reserved for the creators of Homestarrunner.com, I said to them "So you're the reason I got that C my Freshman year at College" and they at first seemed affronted but then got the joke and I spoke with them for a bit. I'd asked them if they'd like a free drawing of the most underappreciated characters on the show and when they couldn't decide who that was I said I'd just draw them the King of Town and the Poop Smith together. They seemed to like it and the one that does the voices even read the King's Dialogue I'd written for him outloud for me.. It was really cool meeting those guys (even though many folks these days don't like em I'm still excited for their video game coming out this month)

On the last day of the show I noticed these AWESOME pinup books.. I mean effin awesome.. I was blown the fuck away by what I was seeing. the table belonged to Alberto Ruiz of Brand Studio Press, and he is just as no nonsense as he is on his site, he's straight to the point and knows what he wants. All I could really do was look through his book he wasn't as interested in shooting the shit as the other folks I'd met had been and he really didn't even open up to me until he found out I was an artist and then he gave me an email address to submit to his latest book, which I posted about not to long ago.. heheh

Heroes Con Part 1: Bryan Lee O'Malley, Sanford Greene, Jim Mahfood

My first day at Heroes Con, Friday. I'd been freaking out about this thing for most of the two weeks, I'd been rebuilding and perfecting my portfolio to get ready and was ready to pull it out for anyone who looked. (it wasn't until later that I figured out that the best thing to have were mini comics and such.. but that's for next time.)

The first person I went to see was my long time inspiration Bryan Lee O'Malley creator of Scott Pilgrim one of my favorite comics right now. I handed him a print of some Scott Pilgrim fan art and he laughed and thanked me for my image, giving me a free sticker for the present, I immediately left his presence because I couldn't think of anything else to say to him really.. I wish I had though.. later I went to speak to his intern who was very very nice and easy to talk to. (his intern's site is here) (byran's site is here)

after leaving mr. O'Malley's table I waddled my way to Sanford Greene's table, we hadn't talked for almost two years but I felt as a fellow Souf Carolina resident I owed it to him to say hi. Me and Sanford met when we had an interesting conversation at the South Carolina State Museum and talked again at the 06 con and then nothing until last week. Sanford was as nice as always and I could see his work had tightened up and become even more impressive than the last time I saw it.. but what I was really going wild about was his Method Man book which he had one sample of on his table.. oh man this was sweet, I couldn't name a single method man song but if his music was about what was in that comic I'd probably buy at least one album. The next table I thought to visit was Jim Mahfood's I'd read his clerk's comics back in the 90's as well as a Generation X comic that he'd fashioned and that was all I knew about his work until that Friday. I stared at his table a moment, awe struck at all the sweet ass work in front of me and then told him that I hadn't seen his stuff since high school and was blown away at how refined his stuff had become now. I absolutely love Mahfood's current stuff and then I caught sight of this pen he was using I nearly soiled myself and proclaimed I had to have it. So I snatched it up and wrote the name down and ordered me some over at http://jetpens.com (the pens in question are called "Parallel Pens" and they're pretty sweet.. well at least they will be when I learn to control them.) I bought three books at Mahfoods table and he was mega nice and awesome, I hope to talk to him next year or sooner.. I dunno man.. damn he was a cool dude.

Just got back from seeing Shearwater and the Evangelicals live. I did my usual rounds of leaving a few posters, stencils and stickers around after the show in hopes it might start pulling a few more people in. The Fuck yeah tour is coming to town next week so I plan on making some new stickers and designs and actually going around for a good few hours afterwards just posting them around Chicago with some friends.

Here's some recent doodles:I thought drawing a venus fly trap woman would be pretty cool but it turned out kinda creepy. I like the colors so I figured I should scan it in anyways.

so I been hardcore rockin out my portfolio at this little Charlotte, NC con.. and I've heard positive stuff so far.. I've also made sure to hand out my business card with the address on the back, but I'm sure that will only get minimal if any response.. which is why I will be following off with all the people I've met and talk to at the con.. the really fun folks I met will probably be getting their own posts later this week after I've read their respective books.

I hope we can get other people to start looking at the blog and kicking our asses with some real comments about how we're failures to really make us start reevaluating what the hell it is we want to do with our art.. and hopefully we'll be making some new friends as well. I hope to hear from at least one of the folks I gave a card to while I was there. Wolf Parade's new album "At Mount Zoomer" came out earlier today and they've always been a favorite band of mine. I wanted to do a stencil and decided to go with lyrics from a song of theirs titled "I'll believe in anything". This song alone is why they're one of my favorites. Every time I hear it I can feel a certain amount of things and relations to the lyrics and I still have yet to decide if that's depressing or not. Also I've continued the trend of three eye'd monsters lately.

I was going to see Jamie Lidell tonight and trying to think of something new to do other than stencils so I got this idea to make some doodles, turn them into stickers and then let them loose all over my trail through Chicago to Abbey pub. I think they turned out pretty good and I gotta thank Josh (Mauvis) for inspiring the idea.

Marshmallow Gremlin is a friendly chap who might just help guide some weary souls to this blog.I liked samurai Paul's little design so I turned that into a sticker as well for some more shameless sticker tagging advertising.

I am working on a series of large posca/sharpie paint marker drawings that are inspired by music I am listening to at the time. I pretty much will put on an album and just draw what I see when I hear the music. I was listening to Dan Deacon when I did this. The lyrics in the background are from the song wham city but they're a little hard to read. Also she's wearing a green skull costume inspired by the song Trippy Green skull. ALSO I AM GAY FOR DAN DEACON.

I plan on doing two more, one might be a little too personal to post or really show anyone other than me but I should have another one done in the next few days.
